Our Response to the Supreme Court Ruling on Trans Rights: Standing Firm for Trans Youth
Now that some time has passed since the UK Supreme Court’s ruling on the definition of ‘woman’, we feel it is the right time to talk again about this decision which has deeply affected the sense of safety and the mental wellbeing of trans young people as well as the wider LGBTQ+ community. As an organisation that supports young people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning or unsure of their sexuality or gender identity across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, we stand resolute in our commitment to their rights and well-being. It is not yet clear and will take time to understand and digest the full implications of this ruling, and while we wait and call for clear guidance on the application of this ruling we know that the young people who it affects are worried now.
Our mission and commitment remain unchanged through these uncertain and challenging times – our dedication to providing a safe and inclusive environment for all young people, regardless of their gender identity is unwavering. We will continue to offer safe spaces and support to help navigate the complexities of a society that may not always be accepting. We will continue to advocate for policies and practices that uphold the rights of trans youth and challenge any attempts to exclude them from spaces where they should feel safe.
Together, we can work towards a future where all young people, regardless of gender identity, can live authentically and without fear.
